Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station
-
Project Location:
Sichuan
-
Project Background:
Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station is located on the lower reaches of the Jinsha River at the junction of Yibin City, Sichuan Province, and Shuifu City, Yunnan Province, China. It serves as a backbone power source for the national "West-to-East Power Transmission" strategy and is the last cascade hydropower station in the Jinsha River hydropower development. As a world-class mega water conservancy project, Xiangjiaba has long operated under severe conditions including high water heads, large flows, sediment-laden flow scouring, and seismic fortification intensity VIII. Although the design standards are high and construction quality is excellent, with increasing operational years (over 10 years), certain structural elements have still developed deterioration related to material aging, hydraulic abrasion, and thermal stress. In accordance with the *Technical Specification for Safety Monitoring of Hydraulic Structures* (SL 725) and the periodic safety assessment reports from the Three Gorges Group, while Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station is generally safe and stable overall, preventive maintenance and localized reinforcement are required for key components to ensure its safe and efficient operation during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period and beyond.
