The Xiaolangdi Water Control Project is located on the main stream of the Yellow River, 40 kilometers north of Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. It is a key control project at the outlet of the last gorge section in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, and serves as the core of the Yellow River's flood control, sedimentation reduction, water supply, irrigation, power generation, and ecological regulation system. As a major national water conservancy project for controlling Yellow River flooding, regulating water and sediment, and ensuring the safety of the "suspended river" downstream, Xiaolangdi has played an irreplaceable role in numerous tasks since its operation, including Yellow River water and sediment regulation, flood control and drought relief, and ecological water replenishment. However, after more than 20 years of high-intensity operation, under multiple severe conditions including high-sediment flow scouring, frequent gate operations, freeze-thaw cycles (low winter temperatures), natural material aging, and increased seismic fortification requirements, some structures have developed varying degrees of performance degradation. Through this systematic reinforcement and smart transformation, the Xiaolangdi Water Control Project will, on the basis of safeguarding the long-term stability of the Yellow River, continue to play its strategic role in national water security, ecological security, and energy security, allowing this "project of the century" to radiate new vitality in the new era.
