Shanghai Jardine Matheson

  • Project Location:

    Shanghai

  • Project Background:

The Bund No. 27 (formerly the Jardine Matheson Building), located at No. 27 Zhongshan Dong Yi Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, was constructed between 1920 and 1922 and designed by the British firm Spence, Robinson & Partners. It is a representative Neoclassical-style historical building within the Shanghai Bund architectural ensemble. For many years, the building served as the office of the Shanghai Foreign Trade Bureau (commonly known as the "Foreign Trade Building"). Since 2009, it has been entirely transformed into the "Roosevelt Mansion," integrating high-end dining, a private club, art exhibitions (Jiushi Art Museum), and commercial events. With this functional transformation and a significant increase in usage intensity—including the addition of heavy wine cellar equipment, structural loads from rooftop terraces and bars, dense foot traffic, and MEP system renovations—the original century-old structural system has faced severe challenges. This reinforcement project aims to systematically enhance structural safety, durability, and modern functional adaptability without compromising the historical architectural features or altering the significant facades and interior spatial characteristics.
