After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Meiling Palace was once operated as a hotel for commercial purposes, and its maintenance and repairs were long delayed. It was not until March 2012 that the 80-year-old Meiling Palace was finally transferred back from the Jinling Hotel Group to the administration of the Nanjing Zhongshan Mausoleum Management Bureau, ushering in its first comprehensive renovation. Due to years of neglect, the Meiling Palace inevitably developed numerous problems, including floor cracks and leaks, wall cracking and spalling, aging pipelines, flaking painted decorations, and partial ceiling collapses, posing serious safety hazards—making the renovation project urgent. The project was completed on September 30, 2013, and strictly adhered to four major principles to ensure quality: "construction in accordance with the original drawings," "preservation of historical information," "continuation of traditional construction techniques," and "planning first, with mock-ups leading the way." On November 6, 2015, this project was selected as one of the "2014 National Top Ten Cultural Relic Protection Projects," representing an honor for cultural relic protection and renovation projects in China.
