Project Background:
The Cartagena Fortress and Ancient City Wall complex, located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a large-scale stone-built coastal military defense fortification constructed from the 16th to the 18th centuries. After centuries of wind and rain erosion, marine salt spray corrosion, seismic activity, and long-term natural aging, it has developed deterioration such as masonry weathering, mortar loss, structural cracking, foundation settlement, and overall stability reduction. To protect the authenticity and integrity of the historic structures, resist disaster risks including earthquakes, hurricanes, and seawater erosion, restore the structural safety and durability of the defensive works, and ensure the long-term preservation and safe use of this World Heritage Site, this structural reinforcement and cultural relic protection project has been specially implemented.
