The Old Library of Wuhan University

  • Project Location:

    Hubei

  • Project Background:

The Old Library of Wuhan University (commonly referred to as the "Old Library") is located atop Lion Hill on Luojia Mountain and was constructed in 1933. Over the nearly 90 years since its completion, the Old Library has endured prolonged exposure to Wuhan's complex climate, characterized by high temperatures, high humidity, distinct seasons, frequent plum rains, and occasional freeze-thaw conditions in winter. As an important cultural landmark on campus, although it no longer serves as the primary book repository, it continues to be used for exhibitions, academic events, and guided visits, consistently bearing structural stress from pedestrian traffic and equipment upgrades. This reinforcement project strictly adheres to the *Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Cultural Relics*, the *Principles for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage Sites in China*, and the *Technical Regulations for the Renovation of Outstanding Historical Buildings*. It upholds the principles of "minimal intervention, reversibility and distinguishability, structural safety first, and authenticity of architectural features." Without altering the building's appearance or damaging historical components, the project systematically conducts structural assessments and employs scientific, precise reinforcement techniques.
