  • Project Location:

    Shanghai

  • Project Background:

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, as a core aviation hub with a long history of operation in China, has undergone multiple rounds of expansion and long-term high-load operations since its opening in 1921. Over time, its core facilities have gradually developed various aging issues, and the pressure on structural safety and operational assurance has become increasingly prominent, making systematic reinforcement and renovation urgently necessary. After decades of use, some structural components in the terminal area have experienced performance degradation, while fire protection and other supporting facilities have become outdated, resulting in insufficient safety redundancy. Moreover, the facility layout is increasingly misaligned with modern aviation service requirements and the overall development planning of the Hongqiao Business District. The east runway and other pavement facilities, being the oldest civil aviation runways still in service in China, have been affected by continuously increasing flight volumes and a growing proportion of large aircraft, resulting in long-term overloaded operations and structural deterioration such as pumping, voids, and cracking. The cargo area warehouses and other auxiliary buildings, due to their age, feature brick-wood structures with roof leakage, rotting wood, and aging, deformed keels, posing significant safety hazards. At the same time, with the upgrading of civil aviation industry standards and the advancement of smart airport construction, the structural load-bearing capacity and durability of existing facilities can no longer meet the safety and quality requirements of aviation operations in the new era. Against this backdrop, Hongqiao Airport has launched a full-scale reinforcement project. This is not only an inevitable requirement to eliminate aging hazards and ensure the absolute safety of aviation operations, but also an important measure to adapt to regional development, enhance the hub's service capacity, and establish a long-term operation and maintenance system.
