Project Background:
As the world's first kilometer-level three-tower, two-span suspension bridge, the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge is not only technologically complex and structurally unique but also has long been subjected to high-intensity north-south traffic flow in the core Yangtze River Delta region. With daily traffic volume continuously growing, a high proportion of heavy freight vehicles, and a demanding operating environment, the bridge faces increasing challenges. In recent years, the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events—such as strong typhoons, prolonged high temperatures, and heavy rainfall—has posed even greater challenges to the structural stability and durability of this long-span suspension bridge. As a transportation hub connecting Taizhou, Yangzhong, and Zhenjiang—"one bridge linking three cities"—the operational safety of the Taizhou Bridge is directly critical to regional network accessibility, emergency response capacity, and coordinated socioeconomic development. To implement the Ministry of Transport's deployment requirements for enhancing the structural safety and durability of long-span bridges, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of national arterial expressways, and to support the implementation of the Yangtze River Delta integration development strategy, it is urgent to conduct systematic testing and assessment of the Taizhou Bridge on the G35 Zhenjiang–Taizhou Expressway, and to implement scientific and precise maintenance and reinforcement measures for components with safety risks or performance deficiencies.
