Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Tongji Design Institute") was established in 1958. Leveraging the strong disciplinary advantages of civil engineering at Tongji University, it is one of the earliest university-affiliated design institutes in China and a nationally certified Grade A architectural design, surveying, consulting, and general contracting unit. As China's urbanization process shifts from "incremental expansion" to "stock renewal," a large number of public buildings, industrial plants, infrastructure facilities, and historically protected structures built between the 1950s and 1990s are generally confronting multiple challenges, including low design standards, natural material aging, changes in functional use, insufficient seismic performance, and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. As a key technical support force for urban renewal and building safety in China, Tongji Design Institute has consistently adhered to its mission of "protecting building life and empowering the urban future," continuously driving the transformation and upgrading of structural reinforcement technologies—from "passive emergency response" to "active prevention and control," and from "experience-driven" to "data-intelligent" approaches—thereby contributing Tongji wisdom and Chinese solutions to the development of safe, resilient, green, and humane modern cities.
