Project Background:
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, as a core aviation hub in the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta, has undergone multiple rounds of expansion and more than two decades of high-load operation since its opening in 2000. With continuing growth in aviation traffic, the structural safety and operational support pressure on its core facilities have become increasingly prominent, making systematic reinforcement and renovation an inevitable necessity. Over the decades, the airport's flight takeoffs and landings and passenger throughput have grown severalfold, with the proportion of large aircraft continuously increasing. The runways and taxiways have long endured heavy-load traffic, resulting in pavement damage, pumping, voids, cracks, and other distresses. The terminal buildings and cargo warehouses have also experienced performance degradation of structural components and insufficient local load-bearing capacity due to years of use, with the safety redundancy of operations steadily decreasing. At the same time, with the iterative upgrading of civil aviation safety standards and the advancement of the airport's third-phase operation and fourth-phase expansion plans, the structural durability and smart operation and maintenance capabilities of existing facilities can no longer meet the development positioning of building a world-class aviation hub. Moreover, the airport's round-the-clock operational characteristics impose higher requirements on facility safety and stability. Against this backdrop, Xiaoshan Airport has launched a full-scale reinforcement project. This is not only a key measure to eliminate structural hazards accumulated over long-term operations and build a solid defense line for aviation safety, but also an important action to adapt to the Yangtze River Delta integrated development strategy, enhance the hub's support capacity, and support the airport's long-term development planning.
