Background of the Branch’s Establishment

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially following the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China Civil Engineering Society has centered its efforts on the frontline of engineering construction. It has advanced scientific research, strengthened academic exchanges, cultivated technical talents and carried out international cooperation, making remarkable contributions to the technological advancement of China’s engineering construction sector.

On July 10, 2023, the Society issued an official notice approving the establishment of a subsidiary branch — the Advanced Engineering Materials Branch, with the University of Science and Technology Beijing as its supporting institution. Professor Yue Qingrui, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from USTB, led the preparatory group to oversee the branch’s founding work.

The Advanced Engineering Materials Branch of China Civil Engineering Society is committed to pooling and integrating industrial resources for the research, development and application of advanced engineering materials. It strives to deepen the integration of innovation chains and industrial chains linking material science and civil engineering, boost research and engineering applications of advanced materials, material-structure integration and structure-function integration, and break through core bottlenecks restricting the R&D and widespread application of advanced engineering materials.

He pointed out that the development and application of advanced engineering materials constitute one of the major driving forces behind technological progress in civil engineering. He expressed the hope that the Branch would forge ahead with innovation, leverage the resource advantages of the Society’s platform to conduct sustained high-level research in civil engineering materials, address core bottleneck technologies restricting civil engineering development through material innovation and advancement, and fuel technological transformation across the civil engineering industry.
